220 posts · Joined 2015. #18 · Jan 1, 2017. that is basically the same cap that is on my 98 pickup with a vortec. all of the drivers side wires go to the drivers side of cap and the same on passenger side but the firing order is still 18436572 if you look at cap you can see how its made to work like that. I can always tell after the first rain when the cylinders start swapping when cold then run fine after 5 miles. Last year I went through 2 caps on mine. The factory cap lasted 100,000 miles now I get 6-7,000 with after market crap.The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The distributor rotates in a clockwise direction. The engine must be on the compression stroke on the #1 cylinder. Line up the timing marks. Remove the cap and the rotor should be pointing to approximately the 5 o'clock position. Good Luck.

the distributor in the picture depicts an HEI is the only difference. You can just pretend 2 of the screws aren't there for the stock point distributor. It actually does not matter which contact on the cap you use as #1 providing the distributor is set in with the rotor coinciding with that particular contact and the #1 piston is at TDC.Thank You for watching.
